A draft report by the IPCC panel showed 75 million to 250 million Africans would suffer from increased water shortages due to climate change by 2020. Researcher Dr. Pauline Dube said African leaders need to implement adaptation methods to overcome these disasters.
"These predictions show that adaptation should have started long ago as it is clear for everyone to see that climate change is occurring and starting to have major impacts," said Dube. "If the current policies of our governments are not including these climate changes we need to change them so that we can adapt."
Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.
There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.
