Sometimes saving the world from global warming is as simple as removing a badly designed roof-rack …

That’s just one of the innovations that automakers have tried in the last year in an effort to win rebates for efficiency or avoid penalties for excessive gas consumption. It’s a perfect demonstration of how intelligently industry can react when given appropriate incentives.

The big car companies are still a long way from the 200+ mpg Aptera – but even the tiny incentives currently in place are making a difference. Imagine what would happen if we started taking the issue seriously and offering more enthusiastic encouragement?
