Republicans: still clueless about their own emissions

Republican Congressman Steve Pearce represents the second congressional district in New Mexico. The effect of climate change on nearly every aspect of life have been noted, and are predicted to be profound unless action is taken (reports ). However, Pearce's head is deep in the White Sands , because he's convinced that:

"The entire question of global warming is one that has a lot of myth associated with it and probably less science."

-- Debate with Rep. Wilson (R-NM01), April 29, 2008, Los Alamos, New Mexico (video)

It's even sadder that his view is shared by 74% of his fellow Republican lawmakers.

Fox News: Global Warming Deniers Crazy Like Man Stuck in Toilet

Here's one for the record.

Fox News, anchor Shep Smith was reporting on the bizarre story of a man who was found "drunk, naked and wedged up to his waist in a toilet" when he made the comparison to “people who deny the whole global warming thing.” “They’re just a little crazy, you know?” said Smith. “What do you do?”

Here's the clip:

Rick Santorum's dirty words

November 7, 2006 was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day for a lot of Republicans. It's the day the Democrats won the majority in the US Senate and House. Über-conservative Republican Senator Rick Santorum was one of the Republicans who lost his seat that day; it was the "largest margin of defeat for an incumbent Senator since... 1980." Ouch .

Determined not to be relegated to the "where are they now?" column, Santorum has been keeping his conservative fan club happy with his semi-regular opinion pieces in the Philadelphia Inquirer. He pontificates on his favorite subjects, like "family values " and "evildoers ".

However, today Santorum digresses, and puts on his "clean coal" salesman hat.

Say Goodbye and Adios "Clean Coal"

A few days ago, the ACCCE released a new, stunningly vague advertisement called "Adios," that is somehow supposed to put America's mind at ease, and/or scare us about a future without coal. Here's the video, and the text:

ExxonMobil Still the Bull in the Climate Shop

He was going to be smooth. Polished. Charming. The new face of ExxonMobil, presented to us back in March 2006:

"We recognize that climate change is a serious issue," Mr. Tillerson said during a 50-minute interview last week, pointing to a recent company report that acknowledged the link between the consumption of fossil fuels and rising global temperatures. "We recognize that greenhouse gas emissions are one of the factors affecting climate change."

That image completely fell apart at a news conference yesterday.

Is Exxon backing away from climate change deniers?

Love on the rocks ?

Exxon Mobil Corp. has cut funding to groups raising questions about climate change from human-generated carbon dioxide, a move taken on the eve of its annual meeting in the face of criticism that the oil giant isn't as green as some of its rivals.

Spokesman Gantt Walton confirmed Tuesday that in 2008, Exxon Mobil (XOM) scrapped funding for the Capital Research Center, the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, the Frontiers of Freedom Institute, the George C. Marshall Institute and the Institute for Energy Research.

"We discontinued contributions to several public-policy research groups whose position on climate change could divert attention from the important discussion about how the world will secure the energy required for economic growth in an environmentally responsible manner," Walton said.
