Local Farmer
Today i went to the farmstand 7miles from my house in N.H.

June used to be beautiful here. The last several years we get excesses of rain. I am afraid weather patterns have shifted. This year we had 40 days without sunshine in a row in late spring and early summer. Depressing.
If you want to know the changes in the weather, ask your local farmers.
Weather has changed and yet
Weather has changed and yet somehow US and world food production keeps trending upward. Stats that I've read recently also show that about half of US food production just gets wasted.
So far - no empty shelves.
Yeah, and my money is growing
Saying that food production is trending upwards is like saying that money in my savings account is earning interest. True, but not the whole story. If inflation is higher than the interest rate on my account, the value of my money is going DOWN. If population growth and the rate at which we use up land (farmland becomes useless at some point unless you know what you're doing) is offsetting food production, then we're screwed at some point in the future. We just don't know it yet. And if Climate Change is making that worse, then we're really screwed.
There's a lot more that goes into this than just how much food we're cranking out.
Not good enough....
We're never going to have people routinely worried about the conditions in Thailand or Cambodia until the majority of the population decides to be responsible for the entire world. When what goes on in the third world is made to matter to those living in the American Midwest, when a government killing it's people (or letting them die) or a natural disaster in Asia is seen by the rest of the world with as much horror and outrage as the same thing happening in their own country, then we'll get off our asses and do the right thing. Until then, we're doomed.
