C'mon, Sue Us: Please Sue Us

Frank Bi has a wonderful petition over at the International Journal of Inactivism, calling for hacks like Christoper Walter (the lurid Viscount Monckton of Brenchley) to find the courage of their alleged convictions and sue Al Gore and NASA's James Hansen for fomenting the global scientific “conspiracy” about climate change.

Really, if these guys had a shred of evidence - or dignity - they'd bring their vacuous argument before a judge and let the case be tested. I, personally, would love to see a jury trial - a serious opportunity to put the evidence before a dozen people who would test Hansen's science against Monckton's palaver.

Anyway, it's August and you're cruising the 'net instead of working: cruise on over to IJI and sign up. I'm confident these clowns won't sue, but baiting them is worth the effort.

I still haven’t seen Johan i Kanada’s signature on the petition yet.

So does he think that it’s perfectly OK for Monckton to keep threatening to sue Gore and Hansen without, well, actually suing them?

No reason why Alarmists(tm) should go commit hara-kiri, when most of the inactivists don’t honour the idea of Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is…

Have I got a deal for you?

Monkton was just on National Radio. The Roy Green Show.
The offer was made YET AGAIN, to setup a nationally broadcast debate between Monkton and ANY Climate Expert.

Roy Green Will Set it up and you can have National Exposure.
Ian? VJ? Frank? Any Takers?

Just e-mail Roy.Green@corusent.com and start digging up your arguments.

This is Legit. Don’t chicken out like Gore has done for a year now.

I thought the petition text was clear enough:

“4. to acknowledge that all requests to Gore or Hansen to participate in ‘debates’ on global warming can and should be rightfully ignored – as such debates are invariably pointless and inconsequential, and will only serve to distract from the truly important debates to take places in the courts of law and the chambers of parliament worldwide;”

No more useless ‘debates’. Either Monckton sues, or he shuts up. It’s simple.

Typical cop out.

No science = no debate.

No prizes = no debate.

A debate which entails no consequences for anyone is a complete waste of time. Even if it’s entertaining.

Since the average US citizen uses two and a half times the energy that the average European uses and five times the average world citizen. So, if population reduction is going to siginificantly affect global energy use and carbon emissions, then Hara-kiri to save the planet is only going to make any difference if it starts in the US and becomes very popular. This remains true despite the massive growth of emissions in China. The US remains well ahead of everyone else in per capita emissions. [Excepting the following nations, whose populations are so small in comparison with the US, so as to make them relatively insignificant. Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Brunei, Australia, Antigua & Barbuda.]

With the US population at 303 million in Dec 2007 that’s the equivalent of reducing the World Population by ~1.5 billions!

So Gary, please do the right thing!

Denialism = Climate Quibbling = Inactivism = Lying for Exxon

I am Canadian
And I don’t believe any of this nonsence so I am not offering.

I thought it would solve two problems at one time.
The population would decline and there would be no AGW problem any more.

I have tried several times to sign the petition, and it doesn’t get through. Suggestions?

Fern Mackenzie

What does the problem look like exactly? Does the petition show up in the first place?

Anyway, the WordPress machine serving up style sheets (s.wordpress.com) has been weirding out quite a good lot recently – sometimes I even have trouble writing on my own blog. You may want to try to try viewing the petition again without style sheets (Mozilla: View | Page Style | No Style), or use a different browser such as lynx, or simply try again later.

If that still doesn’t work, write out your signature here and I’ll paste it in manually…

43 signatures and still going strong! :)
