Canadian government pulls plug on climate-change policy group

A memo obtained by Canadian Press outlining a new organizational structure no longer includes the policy directorate, which consisted of a handful of bureaucrats responsible for implementing new policy, co-ordinating climate-change efforts among various government departments and analyzing their potential impact.

Citing un-named sources, CP said the change was motivated by “a desire to consolidate power” in the office of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The headline on The Australian newspaper’s story about a leak of a major United Nations climate change report read “We got it wrong on warming, says IPCC”.

But an investigation by Australia’s press watchdog has found that in fact, it was the Murdoch-owned national newspaper that “got it wrong”.
