White House Muzzles CDC Chief on Climate Health Impacts

The White House significantly edited testimony prepared for a Senate hearing on the impact of climate change on health, deleting key portions citing diseases that could flourish in a warmer climate.

A draft of the testimony submitted for White House review shows that six pages of details about specific disease and other health problems that might flourish if the Earth warms were not delivered at the hearing.

DeSmogBlog has reported on “denier Cooney” before [March 20, 2007] - eg. http://tinyurl.com/2ctlav

Cooney had resigned as chief of staff of the White House Council on Environmental Quality in June 2007. I guess he is keeping in touch though…

The denial goes on and on, it is just stunning that it does, even at this late stage. Emissions keep rising too.

The Amazon rainforest is magnificent. Watching programs about it, we’re amazed by brilliant parrots and toucans, tapirs, anacondas and jaguars. But if you ever go there expecting to be overwhelmed by a dazzling blur of activity, you’ll be disappointed. The jungle has plenty of vegetation — hanging vines, enormous trees, bromeliads and more — and a cacophony of insects and frogs. But much of the activity goes on at night or high up in the canopy.

Films of tropical forests don’t accurately reflect the reality of the ecosystems....
