Watch the Climate Reality Project on Wednesday at 7:00 PM Your Time

7:00 PM on Wednesday, your time, marks the commencement of the Al Gore-led Climate Reality Project

A live webcast that will last one hour, the Project was announced by Gore in July and calls for a sobering discussion about the reality of climate change and the effects it is having in communities and ecosystems spanning the globe.

Gore will be on the Colbert Report tonight to promote this event ahead of tomorrow's webcast.

In the video launch of the project, Gore stated, “Fossil Fuel companies have money, influence, control. But together, we have something that they don't – reality. Join us for 24 hours of reality and show the world what can change in a day.”

The website's “About Us” section reads, “The Climate Reality Project is bringing the facts about the climate crisis into the mainstream and engaging the public in conversation about how to solve it. We help citizens around the world discover the truth and take meaningful steps to bring about change.”

According to the website, the event will occur in 24 different time zones (of the 40 that exist globally), with 24 different live presenters of the event around the world. It will also take place in 13 different languages.

DeSmogBlog has been given access to live stream the event, which can be watched at 7:00 PM your time below:

To learn more about the Project, see their website, follow it on Facebook and/or Twitter (#reality is the hashtag to follow), or watch videos they have created and placed on YouTube. And if you're prone to forget about things, set yourself up a reminder – it should be a worthwhile hour.

So is Al Gore a socialist or a capitalist? You guys seem to be confused.

Is he advocating socialism/communism/one world government/government takes all? ….Or is he trying to make billions off cleantech & promoting it?

Sure is doing an appalling job of selling the socialist/communist dream isn’t he?

Al is a King who wants to amass personal wealth for Al while preaching restraint and subjection - in fact poverty for people in general.

It’s a good gig.

Communism, Capitalism and one world government can all exist in one mind.

Take Kim Jong Il for example. Lives in shameless luxury, runs a communist country and dreams of being world emperor.

People want to dominate and control other people. It’s always about that. The rest is just window dressing

See, that’s just your conservative paranoia Rick. You guys don’t know what to attack. You can’t neatly fit Al Gore into a pigeon hole, so somehow, he fits in all pigeon holes simultaneously. Like some sort of inter dimensional being.

“Al is a King who wants to amass personal wealth for Al while preaching restraint and subjection - in fact poverty for people in general.”

That is just a baseless strawman. Please provide proof that Al Gore or any pro science speaker or scientist has requested or hoped for poverty in general for others?” It’s a typical tactic of the right wing & overused by fox news, where you no doubt get your assumptions from.

The proponents of the AGW theory, pro science people , progressives AND conservative countries know it’s :

a) firstly about the science &

b) know there is simultaneously an opportunity for another boom to rival the tech boom of the 90’s that continues unitl today. It has the potential to employ hundreds of millions, while simultaneously having little impact on our planet & environment.

Some countries get it & see the economic opportunity. Others are held to ransom by their mining giants & refuse to budge. Prefering instead to use fossil fuel propaganda on it’s populous.

“Take Kim Jong Il for example. Lives in shameless luxury, runs a communist country and dreams of being world emperor.

Yes, but is he advocating capitalism…………? No Rick, no he’s not. Where as Al Gore is. He is an ex politician in a capitalist country, who has never advocated socialism or communism, obviously lives the capitalist dream & backs his statements by investing in green programs, cleanteching his entire house, where he works from instead of having a house AND an office. Plus pays for carbon offsets. He can hardly speak to people from a cave can he & he doesn’t advocate it for anyone else.

“People want to dominate and control other people. It’s always about that.”

Rick, I think you have been reading too many conspiracy sites or maybe spend too much time at info wars/prison plant. There IS NO plan for a world government.

The kind of person you describe are in the minority on our planet. Most people just want to get along & live their lives. It’s others that play on their mental susceptibilities to manipulate their views towards a particular agenda & people are all too willing to be conned. Take people who are conned by fossil fuel companies for example, who are conned into believing there is no alternative. As Darth Vader said “Alll too easy”.

“That is just a baseless strawman. Please provide proof that Al Gore or any pro science speaker or scientist has requested or hoped for poverty in general for others?”

I know you’re hoping for a green miracle, but until that happens wealth is a function of burnig fossil fuels. Poverty is a function of not burning fossil fuels

Example : starving person In Somalia - no car, no private jet, no big house and - severely limited access to fossil fuels

Compare to Al: cars, jets, houses - astonishingly high access to and use of fossil fuels.

It’s a simple equation. There is no green miracle and no exception to the rule.

When Al says we must reduce fossil fuel use - it means we must be poor.

This law is demonstrated well by Al himself.

Well, since you & your denialists mates will vote down any of my comments, I’ts probabaly pointless me commenting here now, but anyway.

“I know you’re hoping for a green miracle, but until that happens wealth is a function of burnig fossil fuels.”

That is the mindset you are indoctrinated into & thoroughly believe. Others don’t have to. Renewables already have a foothold & it’s unlikely they will just dissapear off the scene. Are you saying that once we run out of fossil fuels, it’s just the end for humanity? Back to the stone age because we will all be poor? So humanity has about 500 years left in it at current rates of consumption?

“Example : starving person In Somalia - no car, no private jet, no big house and - severely limited access to fossil fuels”

That’s an extremely limited worldview. So people in Nth Korea, who have plenty of access to fossil fuels are not rich is because………? So democratic capitalist countries in Eastern europe or Asia who also have access to fossil fuels & are poor because…….?

“It’s a simple equation. There is no green miracle and no exception to the rule.”

It’s already happening. There is no green energy switch that fails us over immediately to cleantech. It’s a slow transition & is underway.

“Compare to Al: cars, jets, houses -“

If 200 years ago, we went down the path of cleantech for our energy, or nuclear, he would probably be just as wealthy from simply earning a politicians salary.

“When Al says we must reduce fossil fuel use - it means we must be poor.”

No, it’s just that your ideology commands that you must parrot that.

North Koreans have access to fossil fuel? No - the government does but the people don’t. That’s why the people are impoverished and the government is rich.

People's Climate March

More than 400,000 people took to the streets to have their voices heard at the People's Climate March yesterday in New York City. The record-breaking crowd took up 27 blocks in total, from West 86th street to Columbus Circle.

Photographer Zach Roberts was there to document the biggest climate change march in history for DeSmogBlog. Here are some of his best shots.
