Denial is Not a River in Egypt -- It's a Political Party in America

All but one of the 48 Republican hopefuls for the Senate mid-term elections in November deny the existence of climate change or oppose action on global warming, according to a report released today.

The strong Republican front against established science includes entrenched Senate leaders as well as the new wave of radical conservatives endorsed by the Tea Party activists, says a report by the Center for American Progress.

As election season gets under way, Tea Party favourites such as Joe Miller, who caused the biggest upset of the primaries when he defeated the Republican incumbent Lisa Murkowski in Alaska last month, have been upfront about their doubts on climate science.

“We haven’t heard there’s manmade global warming,” Miller told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.

But the challenge to science goes beyond Tea Party favourites to corporate titans such as Carly Fiorina, who was the chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, and is running for the Senate in California. Fiorina has said on repeated occasions that she is “not sure” climate change is real.

I have it on good authority:

Republican Unification Denial Enterprise (RUDE) is designed to fool voters into thinking that global warming is something the electorate should decide. Voters will cast a ballot FOR or AGAINST. The RUDE venture has worked to frame the question that way.

Democrats need to re-frame the issue to the electorate into the more scientifically accurate statement of: Now we can say with certainty that all Republicans serving will hasten and increase global warming
Most all Democrats seek ways to cool the climate.

But in the long run it may be courts rather than the legislature that has the best chance of making change.

Joe Miller, 'We haven't heard there's manmade global warming'

That is because he is like the spoilt brat stamping its feet whilst clamping its hands over its ears and yelling, 'Shud up! Shud up! Shud up!'.

More evidence of the complete disregard for reason of the Tea Partiers. It is sad to see the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower be decimated by the irrational.

Honestly, I have seen more stupid things said by Tea Partiers than by any other group lately. I have heard that we should expand offshore drilling (no problems there....), Obama is a Mulsim, 911 a conspiracy... Ridiculous..

They've been playing the movie "Inherit the Wind" on my cable stations for the past few weeks. It's quite stunning to me that 50 years later, hard science is still getting trampled on by the same conservative "thinkers".
Apparently, we are destined to fight the battle of "reason" vs. "faith" for eternity.

About the climate cover-up

About the climate cover-up

Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.

There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.
