Even diligent readers of the best U.S. newspapers will be left with a less than overwhelming feeling about the dire consequences that may result from global warming, and the firm scientific conclusion that humans have caused warming, according to an analysis in Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting, the media watchdog group.

Counterparts in Britain and elsewhere around the world were much more likely to print headlines and stories that framed global warming as a crisis that must be dealt with quickly to avert disaster.

Yesterday we reported that News Corp. CEO and Fox News owner, Rupert Murdoch announced that his company would join the battle to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Murdoch stated: "Climate change poses clear, catastrophic threats. We may not agree on the extent but we certainly can't afford the risk of inaction..."

The first thing Murdoch and News Corp. can do to show that they are truly committed to fighting global warming is ending its reporting of misinformation about the science behind global warming on the Fox News Channel.

With the announcement today by News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch that the media conglomerate is joining the battle to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the big question here at DeSmogBlog is whether this means Fox News will end its peddling in global warming junk science.

Fox News founder and media maven Rupert Murdoch launched a company-wide plan today to address climate change that includes not only a pledge to reduce the News Corporation's emissions but also a vow to weave climate messaging into the content and programming of News Corp.'s many holdings.

It's important to watch FoxNews once in a while, to be reminded what kind of goofiness is being foisted on the public in the guise of news. Take, for example, Neil Cavuto's recent fit about someone slipping thoughtful messages into children's movies.

Cavuto and Fox movie reviewer Holly McClure are apoplectic because Happy Feet, the most popular movie in America for the last two weeks, takes aim at the issue of overfishing, which Cavuto calls a "far left message" that suggests "humans and big business are to blame." He concluded:

"My biggest thing was — you can make a political statement all you want — adult movie and all. I just think it’s a little tacky, and ... big-time objectionable when you start foisting it on kids who don’t know any better."
