Politicians, business leaders and economists have joined environmentalists in calling for new laws to restrict greenhouse gases. The US administration has thus far rejected these efforts, but momentum for change has been building since the February 2 release of a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that called global warming "unequivocal" and said with 90 percent probability that human activities help cause it.

Within the first 100 hours of the new Congressional session, Pelosi and the Dems have committed to introducing new legislation "repealing big oil subsidies and investing in renewable fuels." So far, the Democrats have kept to their word and passed the Clean Energy Act, rolling back subsidies to big oil companies.

From ThinkProgress: This morning on ABC’s This Week, George Stephanopoulos reported that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) “is considering setting up a special committee in the House to deal with climate change and global warming.” Also on ABC, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) called climate change “the most serious environmental problem” we face, and said “we’ve got to get action on it” and “not wait until everybody around the world is going to do it.”
