John Locke Foundation's Reality Not Grounded in Reality

Roy Cordato, “Resident scholar” at the John Locke Foundation, asks the question: “What's really going on with Arctic and Antarctic sea ice?”

The answer for Cordato and the JLF can apparently be found at the Exxon-sweet Heartland Institute, who claims that the contracting of Arctic sea ice is due to localized wind patterns and “is unrelated to global warming.”

Impressive. Too bad it's only half the story.

Ignoring Expert Advice is the Only JunkScience

Found this little gem of information over at the John Locke Foundation's blog advocating that we just ignore the findings of the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change all together.

Excerpted from the astro-turf king himself, Steve “the junkman” Milloy's site, it appears that the climate denial crowd is fitting their bill entirely now, with what can only be labeled as total and outright denial.

John Locke Foundation Pats Itself On The Back

A North Carolina “think” tank called the John Locke Foundation is patting itself on the back now for taking so much criticism over the last few weeks from DeSmogBlog and others.

Yes, I'm quite sure that the JLF is pleased with the search results that now appear when you query their organization on google.

John Locke Foundation Fumbling in the Cold

The John Locke Foundation's environmental front EnvironmentNC has this goofy post celebrating record snowfall in Switzerland and cold temperatures in South America as proof that the climate isn't changing.

As even the most rudimentary primer would affirm “global warming” is calculated on the basis of global average temperatures, not on one-off weather events in a single region or country. All theories of global warming also suggest that as the average temperature in earth's atmosphere increases, there will be a corresponding increase in weird weather.

Who is Roy Cordato?

The other day we posted on a right-wing think tank called the John Locke Foundation (JLF) that was duped into praising a fake global warming study.

After posting the story we received a pretty quick response from the dupe himself, Roy Cordato, who's listed on the JLF website as a “vice-president for research and resident scholar.” Turns out that Mr. Cordato fashions himself as somewhat of a “scholar” on the issue of climate change.

Check out this video of Cordato promoting the global cooling in the 1970's climate denier speaking point (I might have made a few slight edits)…

Anatomy of a Dupe - the John Locke Foundation

Someone over at Daily Kos found a cached version of one of the bloggers duped by the “Geoclimatic Journal” hoax.

Seems that the fine folks at Environment NC - a blog set up by the ultra right-wing so-called “John Locke Society” were willing to write some pretty glowing reviews of this fake study.

In referring to the “blockbuster” study, Roy Cordato, a “resident scholar” at the John Locke Society wrote:

Clearly this study from the latest issue of Journal of Geoclimatic Studies by four climate scientists–two from the Dept. of Climatology at the University of Arizona and two from the Department of Atmospheric Physics, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, should be the lead story on the eveing news tonight. But it is more than likely that it won’t even be mentioned. the paper abstract speaks for itself.”

Hat tip as well to the fine work being done by Adam at Energy Smart blog.

John Locke Foundation launches a same-ol, same-ol North Carolina misinformation campaign

We'll never know whether the great empiricist John Locke would have been part of the global warming denial industry, but we can be pretty darn sure that the self-proclaimed “John Locke Foundation” (JLF) is.

The JLF is a well-heeled political organization based in North Carolina that has recently published a “North Carolina's citizen's guide to global warming” (pdf). The guide contains the usual global warming myths perpetuated ad naseum by the global warming denial echo machine; water vapor, medieval warming period etc.
