An autmotive industry number cruncher called CNW Marketing Research has announced a study which claims that, “dust to dust,” high-polluting SUV's consume less energy than high-mileage hybrids. The CNW report claims to have calculated total energy consumption in the full lifecycle of an automobile, including construction and disposal, and concluded that SUVs have an energy advantage over gas-electric hybrids.
Canada's national pretender - the National Post - is at it again, dismissing any notion of climate change on the grounds that while the weather has been warmer than usual in Calgary, it was colder than ever in Warsaw.
“When will we see a story about increasing levels of manmade greenhouse gases being a sign of progress? A story that points out that our use of affordable sources of energy continue to spur increases in global productivity, health, longevity, and quality of life in general? A story about the fact that the wealth that is generated by access to fossil fuels is just what will be required to develop and refine alternative energy technologies in the future?”
Accuracy in Media (AIM) is a New Right website that claims dedication to promoting “fairness, balance and accuracy in news reporting.” But this post gives a wonderful example of how twisted this “impartial” media monitoring has become. AIM assails MSNBC-TV host Keith Olbermann for suggesting that there might be a top-down, pro-Bush bias in his organization. Not possible, AIM claims, because NBC is owned by GE, which famously acknowledges that climate change is a real and pressing problem - in obvious contradiction to the Bush administration's position.
