New study: polar bear survival rate falling

A newly released US Geological Survey report shows that far fewer polar bear cubs are surviving off Alaska's northern coast. While the decline in sea ice due to increased Arctic temperatures is not attributed as a cause in the study, according to Kassie Siegel at the Centre for Bilogical Diversity, an organization lobbying for polar bears to be designated as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act, "it's just another example of seeing all of the impacts that scientists have previously predicted come to pass."

Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.

There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.
