Self-abuse in the Daily Press

It's a mystery why mainstream newspapers continue to believe that printing passionately ill-informed self criticism (especially on the topic of global warming) is part of their responsibility to readers.

Take this First Person column from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer for example. The thrust of the piece is basically this: “Man-caused global warming isn't scientific fact; it's an article of faith for the left - the stuff of belief.” And the author's stated purpose is to encourage “intelligent public debate between qualified people of opposing views.”

Global-warming deniers shift gears in their distraction conspiracy

A column in a Seattle newspaper says growing consensus on human causes of climate change has forced deniers to switch tactics, abandoning shrill demands for scientific evidence – which is ample – for “drive-by shootings” such as exaggerated estimates of energy consumption in Al Gore’s house in Tennessee, or Prince Charles flying across the Atlantic to receive an environmental award.

Inconvenient School Debate Settled

It looks like it's safe once more for Al Gore to wander into Seattle area schools, if only through his popular film, An Inconvenient Truth.
