Faked Climate Graph Used in German Schools

It's frightening how easy it is to present a computer-assisted lie,  especially if you have no conscience about faking things like climate reconstruction graphs. It's also frightening that such a piece of fakery can find its way into the school system of a G8 country.

This graph was created by a German high school teacher named E.G. Beck. It's based on information that is more out of date than a Tim Patterson solar forcing graph, and is manipulated to specifically misrepresent both the scale and the recent climate curve.

RealClimate has the whole story.

Hey, when I saw the heading on this post, I thought that Mann must have inserted himself into the German school system!
Is that because you’re a bad reader or because you’re an ill-informed ideologue?

This cut and paste fakery involved phony temperature scales

Zog, if you are calling Mann a fraud, you had better have proof that would stand up in court.
VJ; That advice may also apply to you. If you are calling Beck a fraud, then I suppose you have the evidence in hand.
To borrow an old line,,,, “The Lord has delivered him into my hands”.

Perhaps you should wander on over to realclimate.org, where you’ll see evidence of Beck’s fraudulent activities that is so obvious that a 6th-grader could understand it. (That doesn’t mean that your average global-warming denier will necessarily comprehend it, though).

Yeah, my high-school German teacher taught us the German idiom equating Spanish to something incomprehensible to them.

Blasphemy, I say! Blasphemy! Surely these climate graph forgers will be put to The Inquisition.
Or maybe this Mr. Beck should be prevented from using his status as a teacher to misinform his students. Nobody expects The Spanish Inquisition — but some of us expect teachers to provide the best information possible rather than changing axes and lines on graphs to support the view they would rather espouse. Is it too much to ask that teachers teach evolution without telling students that the world is 6000 years old? In science our two greatest weapons are surprise and speed … and hardwork … and honesty.
Kind of like James Keegstra was fired for teaching anti-Semitism in an Alberta school. Teachers like him, we don’t need.
The denieralists are worse than NAZIS!

It is almost as if they are shouting “look what the education system did for me, I have learned nothing but I am going to pretend that I know all and I’m proud of it”.

The bottom line is that some educators with no actual experience in this field are giving uniformed and expert opinion, and some uninformed but politically convinced bloggers support them. And what is their claim? That it was warmer in the distant past than it really was. So what? Even if they were correct (and if so, then UFO’s and the Mafia would also be reasonable hypothesized mechanisms), it doesn’t have any bearing on the fact that human activities and emissions from industry, power generation, transport, etc. affect the radiative balance. They are grasping at straws, very illogical straws that would be unconvincing even if they were not false. Can the deniers not present more informed and thoughtful arguments than these??
I meant uninformed, but uniformed also fits for the deniers. Nice Freudian slip.

Those are lyrics of a song.
Totally far out, dude!

Wouldn’t it make more sense to put the graphs on a map?
To discover that most languages refer to chinese as something they don’t understand could have been easily made from a simple table too.

and once again about German:
As we’re talking about languages, and relating one language to another in terms of not understanding, the german “Bahnhof” doesn’t really make any sense, although it does say (nearly) the same thing. It’s spanish what we’re looking for.

Your right there’s alot of fake science being brought into the schools. I even hear that Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” has actually been shown in some schools.
Not that you would know anything about science, if you think what Gore had to say was not largely accurate.

I always find it ironic that those people who show by their posts that they know nothing about science are always the ones who claim to know what should be taught in school science classes.

There is a disturbing anti-science sentiment in those posts. In fact it is more than anti-science it is also anti-intellectual. It is almost as if they are shouting "look what the education system did for me, I have learned nothing but I am going to pretend that I know all and I'm proud of it".

It just goes to prove the old saying "empty barrels make the most noise"

Ian Forrester

To Quote Al Gore on the subject of global warming……………………. “I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual “………………………………………………. I thought the key was the truth…what ever it is. Now if you’d like I’ll start point out Mr Gore’s ‘over-representations”, or as some might call them distortions and some might call lies. I’ve seen the movie

In case you haven't read it, the majority of climate scientists are of the opinion that Gore just about got everything right. Could have done with a bit more explanation in a couple of cases, but he was correct in almost everything in the documentary.

Go ahead and tell us what you have been told by the AGW deniers that is wrong with the movie. It will be a short post or it will be full of misinformation. From previous posts of yours I'm going with the latter.

Ian Forrester

In case you haven’t read it, the majority of climate scientists are of the opinion that Gore just about got everything right.”

How do you know a “majority” of climate scientists agree with Gore? Did they take a vote?

Please share with us your evidence for that claim.

Review by a real climate scientist, endorsed by other real climate scientists.

"...How well does the film handle the science? Admirably, I thought. It is remarkably up to date, with reference to some of the very latest research. Discussion of recent changes in Antarctica and Greenland are expertly laid out. He also does a very good job in talking about the relationship between sea surface temperature and hurricane intensity. As one might expect, he uses the Katrina disaster to underscore the point that climate change may have serious impacts on society, but he doesn't highlight the connection any more than is appropriate (see our post on this, here)..."

"...For the most part, I think Gore gets the science right, just as he did in Earth in the Balance..."

How do you know a “majority” of climate scientists agree with Gore? Did they take a vote?
The question is too stupid to deserve an answer.
The question is too stupid…” Spoken with the erudition of a certified fanatic. Sadly, VJ, your clever repartee is pretty typical of the AGM cultists.

That's AGW cultists.

In answer to my question:

How do you know a “majority” of climate scientists agree with Gore? Did they take a vote?

VJ” replied:

“The question is too stupid to deserve an answer.”

So, in other words, you are (yet again) unable to substantiate your claims.

They (he) are right, VJ. We don’t know whether it is 99.9% or 99.99%, or maybe 99.95% and the others haven’t thought about it, or somewhere in between.
Eco-Zog is of course incapable of justifying its questions. It should first provide evidence that any climate scientists have argued that Gore’s film is inaccurate.

So you still can’t answer the question?

How, exactly, do you know the “majority” of climate scientists agree with Gore?

It’s really a very simple question. Why so evasive?
So although there hasn’t been an “official climatologist Gore poll”, other evidence strongly suggests that the climate-science community agrees with Gore.

Virtually no scientists who have published in peer-reviewed climatology journals in the past decade have complained about Gore.

Gore was *very* well received when he spoke to an overflow crowd of scientists at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) conference last December. The AGU, btw, is the USA’s largest and most influential professional association of Earth and climate scientists.

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography, one of the world’s foremost oceanographic and climatology research centers, has publicly thrown its support behind Gore’s movie, “An Inconvenient Truth”. (See http://scrippsnews.ucsd.edu/Releases/?releaseID=734 for details)

The only people who have complained about Gore’s movie are incompetent and/or dishonest hacks who haven’t conducted any legitimate climate-science research this century.

"The only people who have complained about Gore's movie are incompetent and/or dishonest hacks who haven't conducted any legitimate climate-science research this century."

AMEN!!!

Eco-Zog has been outvoted here.
Bingo ! VJ uses the “v” word so loved by AGW cultists everywhere. She openly endorses the silly delusion that science is consensus and consensus is science.
Yawn.
VJ wins, but might be guilty of beating up on the weak-winded.
Lets start will 3 easy one’s 1) ‘20 to 23 sea rise’….not even the IPCC report under the worest projections comes close to this. 2) “The number Pacfic basin Hurricans have increased’..(incorrect..no increase)and there no predicts that global warming if it occures will affect hurrican intensity or quanities. 3) ‘Lake Chad dring up due to glabl warming’…Lake Chad core records indicate that Lake Chad has had many cycles of drying up during the past 2000 years. And one more question for you….Do the ends justify the means? Mr. Gore did not need to over emphasize, overstate, or distort any of the science to make his point there is plenty of science out there that CO2 is impacting the climate…so why did he?

There are too many simple mistakes in your writing skills to even attempt to answer your questions as written.

Just goes to prove that your lack of scientific understanding is probably caused by an equally poor understanding of English comprehension and expression skills.

Ian Forrester

Thank you Mr Forrester, your non reply is a confirmation of your inability to reply. That’s a very old debate trick, if you have no answer attack the credibility of your opponent. You well understood what I wrote. You know over the past week that we have been trading posts, you have ‘wormed’ your way out of a reply every time, with such tactics.

"20 to 23 sea rise", and other various meaningless words.

Your atrocious grammar and nonsensical writing show that you have absolutely no respect for anyone reading your comments.

Until you improve your writing I will not be answering your questions.

If you really want an answer then do a bit of reading in reputable sources.

Ian Forrester

1) The IPCC figures exclude dynamic ice melt of the kind Gore was talking about (the breakup of Greenland and/or West Antarctica). This is noted both in the table and in the body of the SPM. They do not have models that sufficiently explain this kind of melting. Current ice melt far exceeds all projections. 2) Gore does say that the number of tropical cyclones are increasing, only that their intensity is increasing. AR4 considers this to be “likely” (>66% probability). 3) Lake Chad was not given as an example of Global Warming, but as an example of mankind’s dependence on and manipulation of natural sources of water.
That should be “Gore does NOT say that the number of tropical cyclones is increasing.”

” … I am going to pretend that I know all and I’m proud of it”.

Remind us again exactly which of us smuggly claims to be in possession of The [Inconvenient] Truth? I’m pretty sure it’s not me, nor any of your other ideological enemies.

Once you’ve figured that out, be sure to resume your pompous braying, so we can laugh all the more.

Just proved my point EH.

About the climate cover-up

About the climate cover-up

Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.

There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.
