Forget science, we got ourselves a conspiracy theorist!

Forget any real science, when it comes to right-wing bloggers apparently all it takes to disprove an entire body of scientific evidence is the conspiracy theories of a retired weatherman.

The blog portion of Brett Bozell's Media Research Center, Newsbusters, ExxonMobil funded, echo chamber is today asking, "if the founder of The Weather Channel spoke out strongly against the manmade global warming myth, might media members notice?"

Yesterday, John Coleman, a founder of The Weather Channel, wrote an article for the International Climate and Environmental Change Assessment Project, a right-wing climate change skeptic site, claiming man-made global warming is just a “scam“:

It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create in allusion of rapid global warming."

Yes Newsbusters, I'm sure the media will report on a retired weatherman's rantings about a global conspiracy of scientists and environmentalists.

Call out the Illuminati! Quick where are the Freemasons? We have ourselves a left wing conspiracy!

Coleman goes on:

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild “scientific” scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmental conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15 minutes documentary segment."

According to Thinkprogress, John Coleman Coleman admits, his “expertise” is in weather — not climate change science. In fact, he “has been a TV weatherman since he was a freshman in college in 1953.”

What's next?

Yeah, right.

This guy should go for a beer with Bill Grey. Although I guess, having read "dozens" of papers and spoken to "numerous" scientists, he is now extremely well informed (NOT). Not surprising to find it was published at ICECAP.

Interesting that he sets himself up as an expert and then compares himself to Gore, rather than to the climate scientists themselves. He sounds very confused.

He was the "wacky weather

He was the "wacky weather guy" at channel 7 in Chicago back in the "Happy Talk" news fad of the late 1960s early 1970s period when old ladies were the target audience. To make it look legitimate, the anchormen wore tuxedos with that little ABC issued "Circle7" pin on the lapel. I KID YOU NOT.

He once used the stunt of saying that if it snowed on a certain day he would do the weather standing on his head wearing only his underwear. It did, and his ratings went up that day, but he reneged on the deal. After that station decided to start doing real news he was fired and then he started the Weather Channel as a way to sell ad time and keep his tired act going for a bit. They fired him after they got tired of his antics.

Channel 5 in Chicago hired him a few years after that to prop up their ratings but that plan lasted about 6 months before they realized that people were sick of his act. So they canned him and he hasn't been heard from since, until today.

He got fired from his own

He got fired from his own channel?

This is too good (from Wiki): "He popularized the words "thorms" and "thowers" to represent thunderstorms and thundershowers." Some meteorologist! We're supposed to take him seriously????

Watch out, you might get a tholt!

About the climate cover-up

About the climate cover-up

Democracy is utterly dependant upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.

There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.

Although all public relations professionals are bound by a duty to not knowingly mislead the public, some have executed comprehensive campaigns of misinformation on behalf of industry clients on issues ranging from tobacco and asbestos to seat belts.

Lately, these fringe players have turned their efforts to creating confusion about climate change. This PR campaign could not be accomplished without the compliance of media as well as the assent and participation of leaders in government and business.
