Hark, The Herald (And Lots of Other Papers) Finally Sing About The Climate

Big wake-up to global warming

To illustrate, the Philadelphia Inquirer tracked the number of times the term "global warming" was mentioned in their paper over the years. In 2007 "global warming" was mentioned over 400 times, more than double any previous year.

An attitude shift as inexorable as global warming itself this year brought world groups together to debate risks.

"This was the year that global warming hit the mass radar screen, driven by a drumbeat of catastrophic predictions from top scientists, a jaw-dropping acceleration in polar ice melt..."

Just to put that in perspective, a search on the Philidelphia Inquirer web site for the term "Y2K" yields 756 articles.

And we know how that turned out.

Yes. A lot of software revised and repaired, and a mass of potential problems averted.

I think he's trying to make a point that mentioning numbers of times something comes up isn' a very useful metric by itself.

The article compares the number of times global warming was mentioned this year to the number of times it was mentioned each year over a number of years. Rob the troll just comes up with random words without specifying the time period. Unscientific.

The term "Global Warming" sells papers.
It also ensures funding grants.
It also allows politicians to score points with uninformed masses.
It is the cause de jur.
What other result would any sane person expect?
Have you not heard? Everything is caused by Global Warming!
Here is proof:

And isn't name calling the last resort of the desperate?
Just asking.

Yeah, VJ, tell us how "scientific" it is when a newspaper cites itself that they have decided to use the phrase "Global Warming" more often as "evidence" that "Global Warming" is an increasingly important concept to anyone?

Talk about the tail wagging the dog!

Then again, by the same token, if the term "dingbat" was more frequently used in reference to VJ, I wonder what that might scientifically prove?

Another interesting article. They just keep comming.
Excerpt:
The complexity of climate change does not suddenly make a sociologist, economist, computer programmer, etc. a credible skeptic. In fact, the weakness of Inhofe's list is readily apparent by the very fact that he had to include such people on his list.

About the climate cover-up

About the climate cover-up

Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.

There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.

Although all public relations professionals are bound by a duty to not knowingly mislead the public, some have executed comprehensive campaigns of misinformation on behalf of industry clients on issues ranging from tobacco and asbestos to seat belts.

Lately, these fringe players have turned their efforts to creating confusion about climate change. This PR campaign could not be accomplished without the compliance of media as well as the assent and participation of leaders in government and business.
