A "Great Global Warming Swindle" Library

Check out this blog for a large collection of articles debunking the Great Global Warming Swindle.

There is then of course my favorite story (*note: explicit language) on Swindle director, Martin Durkin, and his rather explicit email response to two British scientists.

Here's the email exchange in its entirety.

Chemical engineering, not carbon offsetting, is key to a low-carbon future

In this week’s BBC Green Room, columnist Stefaan Simons argues that carbon offsetting may make people feel better about emissions but it does little to change behavior or save the planet from global warming. Instead of simply allowing polluters to pay for emissions – a short-term solution -- society must make radical changes to move to a low carbon economy and cut reliance on fossil fuels.

Be skeptical of the latest 'skeptical' UK pollster headlines

A recent IpsosMori poll in the UK found that 56% of people agree that "many leading experts still question if human activity is contributing to climate change."

The newspaper headline interpretations of this latest poll would lead the reader to believe that climate change, for all its media attention, is somehow not real in the minds of the British or that people are 'in denial.'

But scratch the surface of the headlines and nothing could be further from the truth.

A plague o’er both their houses: Business, governments lack resolve on climate change

The United Nations secretary-general has told business it must do more to reverse global warming and use its power to affect the world responsibly, while a new survey of British businesses has found widespread discontent over their government's weakness in providing the necessary framework for environmental decision making.

Gore blames carbon polluters for climate doubt in UK

In a BBC Radio interview today, former Vice President Al Gore says he was not surprised by the UK poll finding that 56% of people believe scientists are still questioning climate change.

Gore states: "The same findings apply to the United States and many countries around the world.

There's money in pollution, Jim, and some of the carbon polluters that are not among the responsible companies, the ones that don't want any change to threaten their profits have actually been spending a good bit of money to sow this confusion..."

UK Straw Poll offers misleading global warming headline

I came across a surprising headline in the UK last night claiming that, "Three Quarters Believe Global Warming A 'Natural Occurrence.'" The "poll" was conducted by an UK publisher called Pocket Issue and their findings are in stark contrast to all of the polling data I have seen showing an ever-increasing number of people around the world convinced that global warming is caused by human activity, namely our reliance on burning fossil fuels, like oil, gas and coal, to produce energy.

In fact a recent BBC sponsored poll found the exact opposite, that 66% of the British population believe that global warming is a result of human activity.

Rich nations blamed for global warming, but not for all the right reasons

As forecast, China has overtaken the U.S. in carbon-dioxide emissions due largely to China’s heavy reliance on coal. Another factor is its well-publicized population of 1.3 billion. But per-capita emissions are much higher in developed countries, where populations are exploding due to immigration. The U.S. already releases four times the carbon per-capita each year as China. And the U.S. population, which has been doubling every 40 years, is headed for one billion by the end of this century!

Antarctic glaciers hastening their retreat due to global warming, study finds

A satellite survey has confirmed that glaciers on the Antarctic Peninsula, which has experienced some of the most intense warming on the planet, are now melting at a faster rate than previously recorded.

EU carbon-trade scheme fails to reduce greenhouse gases

A BBC investigation has found that after more than two years the program has boosted electricity bills and given windfall profits to power companies without achieving its touted objective of slashing carbon emissions.

Mum Harper seen backing Bush effort to undermine international climate-change pact

The Prime Minister is under fire from both Liberals and New Democrats for remaining non-committal on whether Canada will back a proposal by Germany for a post-Kyoto agreement when G8 nations meet in Germany next week. China, India, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa will also be part of the discussions.
