New book cites global warming as extreme-weather cause

Dr. Reese Halter, award-winning conservation scientist and founder of Global Forest Science, says severe weather patterns not only result in loss of life, but also create physical, emotional and financial damage. In his latest book, Wild Weather – The Truth Behind Global Warming, Halter highlights the linkages between the world’s extreme weather and global warming.

From hurricanes, blizzards and ice storms to tornadoes, drought and fire, Halter explains the relationship between Earth’s most devastating natural disasters and its changing ecosystem. Moreover, “As our world population continues to grow, understanding the impact of extreme weather and being prepared for the consequences is essential to the survival of every future generation,” he added.

Global warming theory holds that the polar regions will warm more than the temperate and tropical zones. Thus the temperature disparity between these areas and the polar regions will diminish. It is this disparity between hot and cold regions that causes so much of today's violent weather. So, if the disparity lessens, there should be fewer violent storms, shouldn't there?

No. They're correct. That will not change.

However, what is likely to happen is that the warm moist air will be warmer and moister as a result of higher temperatures (due to AGW) and greater evaporation will result which will intensify storms. Cloud tops will be higher, hailstones will be larger, and heavy rainfall will be heavier.

Simple physics. You add energy to a system and the system works even harder to bring about equilibrium.

Stephen Berg is correct is his explaination of physics as it pertains to a warming Earth. The immediate concern is now DROUGHT. It is real and it is gripping parts of our nation like the southeast, midwest and southwest. The LA Basin is set on 30 June to smash the 1871 record as the driest year since the inception of record keeping. 16 million people are surrounded by tinder mountain forest. Thouse forests have evolved with fire except over the past 80 years or so we have, for the most part, disrupted the natural cycle and so overstocked and highly flamable white firs and incense cedars, tinder dry beetle-killed mature pines will burn in a firestorm.
