IPCC study notwithstanding, Canadian business leaders still cool on global warming

A new poll has found that executives who do believe the findings of the UN climate-change report do so mainly because they see the plausibility of problems resulting from the buildup of greenhouse gases, not because they trust the scientific evidence.

Comm. professor says framing key to winning global warming struggle

An American University professor says until scientists learn to communicate strategically on global warming we're not going to get the policy solutions we need, just more gridlock and a worsening problem.

Is Big Gas Bashing Big Coal?

It's a shame that this National Review Online site doesn't provide some solid evidence for its charge that a Big Gas astroturf group is attacking big coal projects in Texas.

But the Clean Sky Coalition looks well-funded and is mounting a compelling campaign against the use of coal for electricity generators.

It's Official: Fraser Institute Re-releases Leaked Summary

The Exxon-funded Fraser Institute officially released its Independent Summary for Policy Makers (ISPM) today, confirming that the version leaked here on the DeSmogBlog last week was authentic.

The Institute also announced that it has scheduled an ongoing attack on the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, promising a "Fraser Institute Supplementary Analysis Series" on topics such as "Fundamental Uncertainties in Climate Modelling."

AEI Linked to Fraser Institute

Kenneth Green, the "visiting scholar" who last year offered $10,000 payments to any scientist who was willing to provide an "independent" analysis of the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, was the former Director of the Centre for Studies in Risk and Regulation at The Fraser Institute - which is set to release such an "independent analysis" on Monday.

For those who are attending the London press conference, it might be reasonable to ask if any of the contributors to this report actually received the $10,000 payment.

NRSP Controlled by Energy Lobbyists

Two of the three Directors on the board of the Natural Resources Stewardship Project are senior executives of the High Park Advocacy Group, a Toronto-based lobby firm that specializes in “energy, environment and ethics.”

But while the High Park execs have majority control over the NRSP, it appears that they don't have to report its operations as part of their lobbying or account for who's paying for the NRSP's operations.

Monckton fights for Exxon's freedom of speech

Christopher Monckton, a well-known climate change "skeptic" and British aristocrat has fired off a response to U.S. Senators Snowe and Rockefeller for their letter this fall urging oil giant ExxonMobil to cease funding to US "think" tanks that are actively involved in the PR campaign to confuse the public about climate change.

Sponsors pull plug on Tech Central Station

Looks like former tobacco spin doctor Doug Goodyear's DCI Group is getting with the times and letting loose it's controversial TCSDaily project. As many know, the ExxonMobil sweetheart TCSDaily has been a bastion of the climate change denial movement for quite some time now. You also may remember that DCI Group was embroiled in a bit of controversy lately over a YouTube Al Gore spoof video they produced and posted under the guise of 29-year old amatuer filmmaker.

Former tobacco spin-doctor plays cruel climate change hoax

Speaking of fake videos created by ExxonMobil-friendly spin doctors, according to Free Press and the Center for Media and Democracy, in June 2006 , the broadcast PR firm Medialink Worldwide put out a video news release (VNR) titled, "Global Warming and Hurricanes: All Hot Air?" Apparently, the segment was aired over WTOK in Mississippi. The firm identified "TCS Daily Science Roundtable" as the client behind the segment. But Medialink didn't disclose that TCS Daily is a website published by Tech Central Station.
