Deniers "cock a hoop" over latest junk science

Monbiot's column in the Gaurdian today lays out nicely just how far the climate change deniers are willing to stretch their definition of “sound science.” Junk scientists and their cadre of misfits gleefully filled Monbiots inbox with messages like “your scam exposed” and “how do you feel now asshole.” Unfortunately, the only scam to expose is the information climate change deniers pawn off as science.

Monbiot Raises the Challenge: What Are You Doing To Help?

I'd like to ponder this column by the Guardian's George Monbiot, but I have to jump in my wife's huge “mini”-van and go pick up our guests for the weekend.

That said, I'm looking forward to the “Solutions” section that Ross Gelbspan is going to add to this blog in the coming months. There is much we can do without resorting to hair shirts and self-flagelation. But, as Monbiot says, only when we stop lying to ourselves - and each other - about the nature and scope of the challenge.

Monbiot: Methane Findings Highlight the Scam of Carbon Trading

The Scam of Global Warming Is That We Pay Others For Our Complacency
The most destructive effect of the carbon offset trade is that it allows us to believe we can carry on polluting

George Monbiot, The Guardian (UK),  Jan. 22, 2006

[A] study published  last week in Nature showed, to everyone's astonishment that plants produce methane, a greenhouse gas… But while this study does nothing to threaten global warming  theory … it should shake our  confidence in one of our favourite means of tackling it: paying other people to clear up the mess we've made.
