Former White House official doctored global-warming reports to undercut scientific findings

The official made 181 changes in three climate reports to emphasize uncertainties surrounding the science of climate change and undermine widespread conclusions that man-made emissions are warming earth. Shortly thereafter, the official, a former oil-industry lobbyist, left the White House to work at Exxon Mobil Corp.

Flattery and Fallacies

A DeSmog detractor has created two new webpages which are the most flattering and fallacious of anything I've seen in ages.

First, our intrepid critic has created a list of "Climate Fascists" in which he included my name with the likes of Al Gore, Arnie Schwarzenegger, Jim Hansen, James Lovelock, Michael Mann, Nicholas Stern and Tim Flannery. (I'm so proud, I have taken a screenshot to show my kids.)

NASA scientist urges end to new coal-plant construction due to global warming

NASA scientist James Hanson, one of the earliest climate specialists to sound alarms about global warming in 1988, has called for an end to building new coal-fired electric power plants because of their massive role in spewing out the greenhouse gases that drive climate change.

Bush Pressure on Scientists Far Wider Than Previously Thought

A survey results of federal scientists showed 46 percent felt pressure to eliminate the words “climate change,” “global warming” or similar terms from communications about their work. The scientists also reported 435 instances of political interference in their work over the past five years.

Scientists Fear New IPCC Report Sugarcoats Grim Reality

The melting ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are a fairly recent development that has taken scientists by surprise. They don't know how to predict its effects in their computer models. But many fear it will mean the world's coastlines are swamped much earlier than most predict.

Global warming, El Nino set to make 2007 warmest year on record, experts say

Global warming and El Nino are forecast to join forces for a more turbulent climate this year. Combined, they are set to bring extreme conditions across the globe and make 2007 warmer than 1998, the hottest year on record. It is likely temperatures will also exceed 2006, which was declared in December the hottest in Britain since 1659 and the sixth warmest in global records.

NASA: 2006 continues heatwave records

Thought it was a little warmer than usual this summer? Well that's because it was. NASA is reporting out today that 2006 will most likely be the 5th hottest year on record since we began recording global temperature in the 1880's. The five warmest years on record in descending order are 2005, 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2006.

SEJ2006: Speaking Out Against Censorship

In a culminating plenary session at the Society of Environmental Journalists confernce in Burlington, Vt., over the weekend, some of the big guns came out to talk about censorship – and especially the degree to which the Bush administration has used post-9/11 fear-mongering to staunch the flow of information.

There was an interesting general commentary on this, led by Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy and there was a frightening climate-change specific commentary from NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies Climate Scientist and Director Jim Hansen.

Leahy, first, said bluntly that, “Every administration has reasons not to like (Freedom of Information). If you make a mistake it’s a lot nicer to hide it.”

But he added that in his 32-year Senate career, “I’ve been through six different administrations, and I have never seen any as secretive as this.”

NZ Climate Neanderthals Blast Network for Airing Hansen's "Alarmist" Views

The skeptical New Zealand Climate Science Coalition is pressuring TV New Zealand to "balance" the "alarmist" climate forecasts by NASA chief climate scientist James Hansen -- whom they call "a supporter of global warming."
