James Inhofe: The Senator for Suspect Science

Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe got so beligerent with former Vice-President Al Gore at the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works last week that new Chair Barbara Boxer had to cut him off (check out the video at the end of this post).

That, presumably, is because Senator Inhofe is accustomed to a different quality of input in testimony before this committee. When he was chair, he preferred likeminded lobbyists (Joseph Bast, Heartland Institute, testimony here) and fiction writers (Michael Chrichton, testimony here) as witnesses to committee hearings.

James Inhofe: The Senator for Oil and Gas

James Inhofe, former chair of the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works and the leading Republican climate change denier recieved more in donations from the oil and gas sector than any other Senator, in the 2002 election cycle. According to the latest available election financing data, in the last five years Inhofe has received just over $3.4 million in donations from 20 industry sectors - almost $1 million (29%) is from the Energy/Natural Resources Sector and their respective PACS.

Press: The Skeptics Are In Retreat

With Democrats controlling the environmental agenda in Congress, a panel of international scientists saying there's a greater-than-90 percent chance that humans contribute to global warming, and former vice president Al Gore calling climate change a moral issue, many besieged global warming skeptics are starting to tone down their rhetoric.

Bye, bye Inhofe

The climate change denial circus created by Senator James “global warming is a hoax” Inhofe, outgoing chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee has finally come to an end, but not, of course, without some final choice quotes. As reported earlier this week on DeSmog, Inhofe took one last stab at sowing doubt about the realities of global warming and chose again to make the US media the target.

HuffPo has a good take on the Inhofe circus.

National Post Lionizing Deniers: DeSmogBlog Shocked; SHOCKED!

Having struggled valiantly over the years to provide a home for any writer or “scientist” who will challenge the global climate change consensus, Canada's National Post has started a series on “The Deniers,” people who the Post would laud for trying to undermine Canada's commitment to climate change policy.

First in the series was a “defence” of the esteemed statistician, Dr. Edward Wegman…

Inhofe's last stand

Sources are telling DeSmog that on Dec. 6th a last and final attack on climate change science and the media will be mounted by Sen. James Inhofe, outgoing chair of the Envrionment and Public Works Committee .

For his final committee comedy act, Inhofe has proposed an interesting line-up of witnesses, all of them, unsuprisingly, close to the fossil fuel industry-backed war on science. First up will be Dr. Bob Carter an Australian who's affiliations include the fossil fuel industry friendly (and funded) Institute of Public Affairs. Second up is David Deming, an “adjunct scholar” for the National Centre for Policy Analysis…

Inhofe aide cries to the UN: "The Skeptics Are Being Demonized!"

In a panel discussion at the United Nations conference on climate change, the top aide to Sen. James Inhofe (“Global Warming Is the Greatest Hoax Ever Perpetrated, etc.”) complained recently that “skeptics who are vocal are vilified.” Mark Morano added that the greenhouse skeptics are being “demonized” by the media, and their Enviro-Alarmist allies. Members of the discussion panel on how to best convey the issue of climate change quickly shot back.

Jimmy Inhofe: Don't Let the Slamming Door Hit You on Your Way Out

Before anybody gets uppity about the DeSmogBlog being partisan, we'd like to point out that some of our favourite people are Republicans (stand up California Governator and climate policy champ Arnie Schwarzenegger).
