And If You Believe This: Buy My Exercise Machine ...

What a great one-two punch you get from Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe and the right-wing blogsite Canada Free Press. CFP is always at the ready to run material from any climate change denier on the continent, but Jim Inhofe's outburst today is a classic.

CNN: Inhofe is "all alone on Capital Hill"

CNN hits back at Sen. James Inhofe's speech earlier this week in which he challenged the media by claiming that, “During the past year, the American people have been served up an unprecedented parade of environmental alarmism by the media and entertainment industry.”

Among CNN's best retorts to Inhofe's claims is this one: “Inhofe is all alone on Capital Hill these days, most Republicans believe that the scientific jury is in [on global warming].” Inhofe's Republican colleague, Rep. Christopher Shays states in the CNN rebuff that, “we have seen too much documentation to know that the world is getting warmer, we know that the ice shelves are melting and for him [Inhofe] to say otherwise just is like putting a bag over his head and not seeing it.”

Think Progress has the CNN clip.

Newsbusters Outraged that ABC is Exercising News Judgment

In the tireless (and tiresome) pursuit of “Exposing and Combating Liberal Media Bias, NewBusters touts Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe's speech on the Senate floor Monday (Sept. 25), and then savages ABC's recent coverage of the topic of climate change.

In celebrating the Inhofe speech, NewsBusters picks up this quote:

“The year 2006 saw many major organs of the media dismiss any pretense of balance and objectivity on climate change coverage and instead crossed squarely into global warming advocacy.”

Inhofe Once Again Chooses Fiction over Science

Sarah just pointed me to this Jiminhotwater post reporting that the Chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee is once again calling as a witness someone who expertise leans strongly into PR and only weakly into science.

As per the comments on the weekend by Teresa Heinz Kerry, Jim Inhofe has been perverting the public conversation on climate change by inviting cranky deniers to testify at his committee while preventing the Democrats from inviting anyone at all. Inhofe's latest guest is “Skeptical Environmentalist” Bjorn Lomborg - a man whose record of scientific research in this field is worse than Tim Ball's.

Schwarzenegger: the Debate on Climate Change is over

ABC's Bill Blakemore leaves no question where Cali. Governor Schwarzenegger stands on the science behind climate change:

“I say the [global warming] debate is over. We know the science,” California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared forcefully at a recent United Nations summit. “We see the threat, and we know the time for action is now.”

And if you don't believe Arnie, check out these factoids:

Senate Committee Offers "Majority Facts"

Here's one we haven't seen before: the U.S. Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works (James Inhofe, chair), is releasing a periodic “Majority Fact of the Day,” the Aug. 4 edition featuring an attack on New York Times columnist Bob Herbert.

Until now, I always thought a fact was … well, a fact, and I can only assume that Senator Inhofe calls his outburst a “majority fact” to distinguish it from … well, from an actual fact.
