A Coal Industry Front Group's Principled Attack on Climate Action [2]
If the "clean coal" advertising on CNN [7]wasn't enough, the coal industry is now going hard after the Leiberman-Warner Climate Security Act.
The Wonk Room at Think Progress [8] has a detailed post up about the latest activities by the coal industry's main front group, the "American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity" (ACCCE). [9]
The Wonk Room reports that:
"ACCCE claims it is opposed to Lieberman-Warner because it 'does not adequately embrace [10]' their 'principles' and raises 'just too many unanswered questions.'"
And in the minds of ACCCE, a group that is now touting itself as an environmental organization [11] in phone polling, Leiberman-Warner does not adequately meet their principles because the bill does not allow for the construction of new, uncontrolled coal-fired power plants until taxpayers pony up unlimited amounts of money for carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technology.
Nice principles.
