Colbert Report on the Exxon Pegasus Tar Sands Oil Spill

A quick break for some Friday afternoon comic relief. As only Colbert can, he highlights the absurdity and somehow culls the funny out of a freaking oil spill. And he hits the most important points, too: the Pegasus-Keystone XL comparisons and the fact that it's not an “oil spill,” but a “bitumen spill.” Oh, and “oil soaked Neils.”

Here's Stephen Colbert on the spill:

Watch the Climate Reality Project on Wednesday at 7:00 PM Your Time

7:00 PM on Wednesday, your time, marks the commencement of the Al Gore-led Climate Reality Project

A live webcast that will last one hour, the Project was announced by Gore in July and calls for a sobering discussion about the reality of climate change and the effects it is having in communities and ecosystems spanning the globe.

Gore will be on the Colbert Report tonight to promote this event ahead of tomorrow's webcast.

In the video launch of the project, Gore stated, “Fossil Fuel companies have money, influence, control. But together, we have something that they don't – reality. Join us for 24 hours of reality and show the world what can change in a day.”

GM Vice-chair touts "Volt" but still denies climate science

Click on this hilarious video and you will hear comedian Stephen Colbert asking if global warming is being caused by “sunspots” and GM vice-chair Bob Lutz answering:

“… in the opinion of about 32,000 of the world's leading scientists, yes.”

The reference in what is otherwise a lighthearted comedy segment demonstrates the toxicity of the climate change denial movement.

Colbert explains climate change as only Colbert can

As part of our commitment to keeping Fridays a little lighter here at the DeSmogBlog, check out this bit by Stephen Colbert and his hilarious show the Colbert Report . Now please keep in mind where Colbert is coming from in his show, for those not in the loop, Colbert uses satire to highlight how ridiculous US media (read: Fox News) has become. Enjoy, and please don't take this seriously, it's Friday!
