NRSP: Not Ready to Stop Perjuring

Natural Resources Stewardship Project executive director Tom Harris has been out taking advantage of small-town reporters again , going so far as to convince the Cornwall Standard Freeholde that he is a “scientist.”

He is nothing of the kind. He's a PR guy who's running a front group for an energy industry lobby firm. It's not clear how the reporter came to the erroneous conclusion, but if Harris had an ounce of integrity, he would phone the paper and demand a correction.

NRSP: More Pseudo-Science Goofiness

The industry front group the Natural Resources Stewardship Project (NRSP) announced yesterday that it is establishing a “Science Audit Centre” - clearly a second line of attack against potential Canadian climate change legislation.

NRSP: Not Really Sufficiently Principled

A column in the Toronto Sun yesterday sets a new low in the disingenuous disinformation campaign by the Natural Resources Stewardship Project (NRSP).

Science is a fussy profession

Science is a fussy profession. For example, it is generally frowned on to not disclose your funding sources or conflicts of interest – and for good reason.

Take the recent study by Yale University, which found that industry-funded studies of soft drinks are far less likely to find negative impacts.

Ever heard of the "Natural Resource Stewardship Project?" Brown University has.

If Brown University newspaper's Don Trella ever wants a job writing at DSBlog, we would love to chat. Check out Trella's piece on Tom Harris and the NRSP. A couple of good quotes:

The NRSP is a coalition whose leadership includes about half of the last handful of climate scientists of note who reject global warming as a “myth.”

Ironically, they realize their position is so out of the mainstream, they have to use a name that not only belies their true purpose but in fact implies they are environmentalists.

Tim Ball Does Science: Believe It When You See It

Natural Resource Stewardship Project executive director Tom Harris says that the indefatigable Dr. Tim Ball is not retired - that “his writing, speaking and media schedule would exhaust most rock stars.” Well, as a reference to Canada's foremost climate change denier, that seems like an uncharacteristically factual statement. Certainly, Dr. Ball spends more time acting like a rock star than, say, a working climate scientist.

Climate Change Denial: A Tactical Guide

If anyone doubted the agenda of the public relations professionals who are dedicating themselves (on behalf of their clients) to the denial of climate change, Tom Harris of the Natural Resources Stewardship Project explains it in this post on the right-wingy blogsite Free Dominion ….

DSBlog game: what's wrong with this picture?

What's wrong with this picture

Here's a fun, albeit easy, game of “tell me what's wrong with this picture” for you regular DSB'ers out there.

As many of you know this is Tim Ball , star of the recent “Great Global Warming Swindle” that is receiiving a regular thrashing right now, even by one of the scientists that appeared in the film. I blurred it a little to make at least somewhat of a challenge.

A Global Warming Swindle play-by-play

The UK Channel 4 documentary “The Great Global Warming Swindle ” has been touted by deniers and slammed by a lot of others, including one scientist who appeared in the film. Having taken a quick glance over the movie, the first thing that jumps out is that it's the same guys we write about on DSBlog all the time. There's nothing new here that we have not heard ad naseum from the same handful of global warming deniers.

Here's a few obvious points:

Putting lipstick on a Llama: Tim Ball, retired professor at the University of Winnipeg's department of geography, has magically turned into “Professor Tim Ball, University of Winnipeg, Department of Climatology.” Here's some more on Tim Ball.

$100 in iTunes to the first person to find the elusive department of climatology at the University of Winnipeg. I'll even give you the list of departments at U of W to make it easier.

Channel 4 Now Ashamed of its Experts

After a DeSmogBlog post yesterday complained about academic misrepresentation in the promotional material for a UK television show (The Great Global Warming Swindle), Channel 4 went back into its website and removed all reference to the “experts” that it plans to quote in the program, due to air March 8 at 9 .m.
