Coal Industry Spin Doctor Joe Lucas Refuses to Admit Coal Contributes to Global Warming

joe-lucas-accce

In an interview on CNN, Joe Lucas, the Vice President of the Americans for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) refused to admit that burning coal contributes to global warming.

This shouldn’t come as a shocker to anyone in the know, Lucas has spent the better part of decade running public campaigns that donwplay the realities of climate change. As you can see on his new website for ACCCE Lucas is trying hard to shed that past and wrap his latest coal lobby project in a blanket of green:

But a wolf can only hide in a sheep’s green clothing for so long before they slip.

Lucas stunningly refuses to admit in the CNN interview whether or not the burning of coal even contributes to global warming.

NARRATOR: Still, the industry refuses to say its plants contribute to global warming.

INTERVIEWER: Can you just answer that yes or no—If you believe that burning coal causes global warming?

JOE LUCAS (shaking head no): I don’t know. I am not a scientist.

Actually Joe, you don’t need to be a scientist to know that burning coal contributes 40 percent of U.S. CO2 emissions.

You can watch it online here on CNN.com (approximately 2:00 minutes in): No country for ‘coal’ men

Biden – Palin: Finally, A Real Debate about Climate Change and Energy

Would she or wouldn’t she? To tell from the lavish – some would say obsessive – coverage that preceded the vice-presidential debate in St. Louis, Missouri, last week, the question that was on every self-respecting pundit’s mind was: “How, or, to be more precise, how poorly, will Palin fare?”

Following a series of highly publicized interviews in which she had “distinguished” herself for her absolute lack of grasp of foreign and domestic policy issues – citing Alaska’s proximity to Russia and her whirlwind tour of Iraq as examples of her “substantial” experience.

Climate Change and the Presidential Debate: The Topic that Dare Not Speak its Name

All eyes were fixed on Oxford, Mississippi, this past Friday where, after a week of tumultuous activity on Wall Street and Capitol Hill, the University of Mississippi was set to host the first presidential debate between Senators Barack Obama and John McCain.

Beck's "Climate of Fear"

CNN shock jock Glenn Beck's "Climate of Fear" special was a miserable failure in the cable ratings.

It most likely tanked because it played host to the usual global warming denier gang, using the same laundry list of global warming denial talking points.

See below for the youtube version of Beck's denier-a-minute special broken into six parts — and check out the research we have compiled on some of the better known global warming dinosaurs Beck features.

Beck's "Climate of Fear" crashes and burns

Is it scientifically valid to attribute one instance of total failure by the global warming denier campaign to an emerging long-term global trend of failures by the global warming denier campaign?

Last week's Glenn Beck denier-a-minute special on climate change "alarmism" was a complete flop. The evening ratings are out and it shows Beck dead last in total viewers in the 7pm time slot. CNN can't be too happy, considering there was a considerable amount of hype-dollars invested in this attack on science.

I guess Tim Ball isn't the media darling the US think tank s have been making him out to be.

CNNumbskulls: Beck's flock defrocked

Media Matters does a great wrap here on the scientific and political bona fides of the pack of deniers that Glenn Beck rustled together for his special: Exposed: The Climate of Fear.

About the climate cover-up

About the climate cover-up

Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.

There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.
