The DeSmoggers of the AIDS movement

When it comes to denying overwhelming scientific evidence it seems that climate change does not hold the entire market. A recent article in Science magazine covered a new website called AIDStruth.org that seems to have a very similar mandate to that of DeSmogBlog.

AIDStruth was launched by AIDS researchers, clinicans and activists fed up with a small but very vocal group of people skeptical of the link between HIV and AIDS. Their website features a section called "Debunking the Denialist Myths" and another providing information on "AIDS Denialists."

According to AIDStruth founder Nathan Geffen, "Many people who had fought denialism in the early 1990s had lost interest in the subject, but in South Africa, it was at its peak. South Africa has more people living with HIV than any other country, and it's also been a place where AIDS denialism has had political support with terrible results."

Might want to read a bit of the material you have recommended. It reads, to me, like the very worst of the anti science and anti ecology crap published by the Denialist crowd. Those who are defending the aids establishment sound like a bunch of thugs, and they surely do not believe in letting the other side say a thing. They wander immediately off into claims of conspiracy theory, claims the experts in virology who doubt have not published science (false) or are motivated by hatred of queers (not proven but not relevant either) and really are a pretty unattractive bunch. I read a paper by this Duesberg and while I am no scientist, what he has to say is based on reason and the normal review of facts and literature that I am used to in reading, say, articles in Real Climate.I would not trust what the aids establishment types say, however, because it sounds like the violent bullying talk that I have seen in the climate denier writing.
I took a look at Duesberg and he has an article in the July 2007 Scientific American, and they say that while he may be wrong on the numbers (many scientists believe hiv does cause aids) the fact is he is still a leading scientist on cancer and it seems many scientists believe he has developed a sound approach to origin. Reading this confirmed my impression that he is for real, and maybe, just maybe, the bully boys of the aids establishment are just a bunch of ignoramuses. Queers have a short life span (averaging around 50), they tell our Supreme Court that pornography is a vital part of their life style, they oppose the imposition of a legal duty on health care workers to inform their partners if they have aids ( they say that secrecy here is part of their civil rights), they clamor for more research to enable them to continue their life style of promiscuous conduct and thus crowd out the research funds available for other, as pressing or much greater needs (the number of them that die is tiny compared to the big health killers), and they even want monuments set up to memorialize their names as though the deaths resulting from a selfish, greedy, and unhealthy lifestyle is something to celebrate. I never heard of Duesberg before but I guess I will follow up on this now. Maybe public research should be redirected away from aids.
HIV-AIDS actually exists.

About the climate cover-up

About the climate cover-up

Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.

There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.
