UK's Guardian: debate is over, skeptics go nuclear
Polly Toynbee at the Guardian today follows the climate change skeptic lobby as they morph into to nuclear energy boosters.
Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.
There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.
Ms. Tynbee's article reveals
Ms. Tynbee's article reveals her belief that "the MMR vaccine causes autism" hails "from a bizarre tradition of rightwing bad science." Say what you will about the MMR-autism link theory's reliability, but it certainly is not associated with either the right or left wing. Ms. Tynbee also believes George Bush was "the last" of the global warming "deniers" and has now "conceded" that "the world is warming at life-on-earth threatening speed." I must have missed that particular White House press conference on C-Span.
