US Rejects 50% Cuts As Superstantial

VIENNA - Curbs needed to fight global warming could be less drastic than a 50-percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 favoured by the European Union, the United States' chief climate negotiator said on Monday.

President George W. Bush agreed at a summit in Germany with his main industrial allies in June that UN climate reports showed that "global greenhouse gas emissions must stop rising, followed by substantial global emission reductions".

However, the text of the agreement did not define "substantial".

I think projecting anywhere beyond around 2025 is useless for practical planning purposes.

Because I've been getting stressed out trying to figure out how my mortgage, RRSPs, pension, and taxes interact!

And, of course, any responsible government would not plan out further than say 10 years. Forward thinking, predictions and risk-assessment is a suckers game I say! (please note dripping sarcasm)

Here I thought they only planned in 5 year chunks, or less......

Rephrase: projecting out 42 years from now is a way to distract from politically unpalatable solutions in enacting effective (modern civilization survives) Global Warming policies. Pragmatically, wealth transfers occur each generation.
It makes perfect sense to build a nest egg during your peak earning years for retirement...maybe by then Virtual Reality can take us back to when there were rivers and fields of grain and forests and dumb neoconservative politicians/business-folk.

About the climate cover-up

About the climate cover-up

Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.

There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.
