Comedians didn't work, bring in the Air Force!

Last week the we had comedians attempting to attack the overwhelmingF15 Eaglescientific consensus on climate change. Now this week we have a retired Air Force Sergeant boosting the fringe science of the small, but vocal skeptic community. No surprise though when you consider that more and more skeptics are jumping ship.

Heritage Foundation goes nuclear

Guest speakers will include Craig Hansen, VP of Washington Operations, for the BWX Technology, a leading US nuclear energy company.

UK's Guardian: debate is over, skeptics go nuclear

Polly Toynbee at the Guardian today follows the climate change skeptic lobby as they morph into to nuclear energy boosters.

Manufacturer Association's legacy of spin

Pat Cleary VP Communications With the death of their PR industry front group, the Global Climate Coalition, the National Association of Manufacturer’s has taken it upon themselves under their own name to continue to propagate the PR spin confusing the public on the issue of climate change.

The most recent piece of misinformation by the MAS comes from thier head spin doctor Pat Cleary, the organization’s Vice President of Communications.

Here’s a brief history of the NAM’s attack on the science behind climate change provided by the good people at Sourcewatch:

North America's heat wave: let the PR spin begin

It's getting hot out hereThe Globe & Mail, Canada's national newspaper, and many more across North America, is reporting today on the recent heat wave to hit most of the US and much of Canada.

The Globe reports:
The hot weather seems to be part of a longer-term trend of above-average temperatures. Last month, Environment Canada said this spring was the warmest Canada has experienced since modern nationwide record-keeping began in 1948. This followed a winter that was also the hottest on record. Except for the springs of 2002 and 2004, temperatures have remained above normal in Canada for the last nine years.

New Spin Tactic? Forget scientists... let's use comedians!

Christian Science Monitor today employs a comedian to battle global warmingCSM logo science, with such insight as: “…we shouldn't worry about the distant future.”

I guess they figure the PR stall tactics aren't working anymore so they're going to humour us into inaction.

When the Right spins Darwin there’s bound to be trouble

If intelligent design wasn’t strange enough, the right-wing is now looking to use Darwin and evolution to spin climate change. Charles Darwin

Thomas Brewton at the Conservative Voice has decided to make the illogical leap of faith (read: spin) between scientific predictions of mass flooding, intensified storm, wildfires and drought caused by global warming and the concept of catastrophism, defined as “… the doctrine that at intervals in the earth’s history all living things have been destroyed by cataclysms and replaced by an entirely different population.”

NEWS ALERT: CNN's Lou Dobbs says "discussion is over..." Get on with solutions!

Lou Dobbs interviewed Gavin Schmidt, Michael Mann and Alan Robock tonight about global warming and states that the debate is over on his program. Dobbs wants to focus not on whether there's a problem and what is responsible, but rather on finding solutions.
