ClimategateTV: Deniers Start Their Own Station

The Deniers have rustled up their own TV station, an offshoot of the right-wingy Corbett Report called ClimateGate TV. The site has everything you could possibly want in terms of hyperventilating and belligerent commentary about the emails stolen from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. The only thing missing is even the tiniest hint about who’s paying the the bills for the new “service.”

Featuring video podcasts from a host of non-experts - from Christopher Monckton to Tim Ball - the site is cleaner, snappier and much more professional-looking than interviewer James Corbett’s original website. It also offers the full variety of denier coverage at the Copenhagen climate summit, including some tape of the weekend “alternative conference.”

More embarrassing, perhaps, is a series of commentaries from the dean of discredited Canadian deniers Tim Ball. In the interview featured above, he renews old complaints about what he has described repeatedly as a scientific conspiracy to keep people like him from publishing his research. (His lifetime publication record amounts to a disappointing total of four peer-reviewed articles.) While Ball claims censorship here, he has acknowledged in the past that he never personally submitted an article for publication that was rejected by a peer-reviewed journal. It turns out the reason he didn’t publish more wasn’t censorship; it was that he hasn’t done the work.

The snappy new TV station demonstrates again the energy and dollars behind the stolen email story - which continues to dominate the conversations in Copenhagen and news coverage arising from the event. Part of the reason for media enthusiasm about the story is the unceasing promotion from the denier community. And part is the lack of a clear alternative story out of Copenhagen. There have been dustups over a leaked early text, drafted and ill-advisedly circulated by the Danes. There was a compelling demonstration organized all but instantly by TckTckTck after the threatened Island State of Tuvalu walked out of negotiations.  But for the most part, the negotiating action is occurring in closed sessions among subject area experts tidying up all the fine details possible before the high-level delegates show up for the show down over actual targets and commitments.

So, media is left with a gap, and the deniers continue, tirelessly and with a steady flow of resources, to fill that gap with Tim Ball’s casual email-oriented slander of the entire scientific community. Expect more in the week to come.

Richard,

Who is paying for YOUR expensive trip to Copenhagen? And I am wonder why YOU need to be there. Are you a policy maker, or a UN Official or government official of some sort? …. What is your role in this? And again … who is paying for your European winter vacation?

Really … let’s hear it?

Most of the funding for Desmog came from John Lefebvre, where he gets his money from is not exactly black and white but it sure is colored. Here’s a link to a mccleans article that goes through the Lefebvre saga. I’m sure I will be corrected if I’m wrong but Lefebvre was the guy who quarterbacks the funding for Desmog. Tough to say if this is any better than relying on “Big Oil” for funds though.

As far as the Climategate TV by far my favorite show is the East Angliano’s
Starring Micheal Mann and Tommy Jones. They go by their street names of “Big” Mike and “Tommy gun” Jones. My favorite episode so far is where they enforce their protection racket amongst scientists to keep quiet about the lack of evidence for AGW alarmism and put the squeeze on some peer reviewers to make the reports come out the way “Big” Mike wants. Quite a Drama series.

Just read an article on the psychology of denialism in Wired. You might want to read it, It could be difficult but it might be good for you. Help you deal with some of your emotional issues.

Is Tim Ball a historical climatologist, or a hysterical climatologist. Or simply history?

Err…my own lifetime record of peer-reviewed paper is 6, beating Ball by 50%. But my record stopped shortly after my PhD (which alone amounted in 4 articles). I wonder how he could get NSERC research funding with his record.

Open Letter to Secretary-General of United Nations

His Excellency Ban Ki Moon

Secretary-General, United Nations

New York, NY

United States of America

8 December 2009

Dear Secretary-General,

Climate change science is in a period of ‘negative discovery’ - the more we learn about this exceptionally complex and rapidly evolving field the more we realize how little we know. Truly, the science is NOT settled.

Therefore, there is no sound reason to impose expensive and restrictive public policy decisions on the peoples of the Earth without first providing convincing evidence that human activities are causing dangerous climate change beyond that resulting from natural causes. Before any precipitate action is taken, we must have solid observational data demonstrating that recent changes in climate differ substantially from changes observed in the past and are well in excess of normal variations caused by solar cycles, ocean currents, changes in the Earth’s orbital parameters and other natural phenomena.

We the undersigned, being qualified in climate-related scientific disciplines, challenge the UNFCCC and supporters of the United Nations Climate Change Conference to produce convincing OBSERVATIONAL EVIDENCE for their claims of dangerous human-caused global warming and other changes in climate. Projections of possible future scenarios from unproven computer models of climate are not acceptable substitutes for real world data obtained through unbiased and rigorous scientific investigation.

Specifically, we challenge supporters of the hypothesis of dangerous human-caused climate change to demonstrate that:

Variations in global climate in the last hundred years are significantly outside the natural range experienced in previous centuries;

Humanity’s emissions of carbon dioxide and other ‘greenhouse gases’ (GHG) are having a dangerous impact on global climate;
Computer-based models can meaningfully replicate the impact of all of the natural factors that may significantly influence climate;
Sea levels are rising dangerously at a rate that has accelerated with increasing human GHG emissions, thereby threatening small islands and coastal communities;
The incidence of malaria is increasing due to recent climate changes;
Human society and natural ecosystems cannot adapt to foreseeable climate change as they have done in the past;
Worldwide glacier retreat, and sea ice melting in Polar Regions , is unusual and related to increases in human GHG emissions;
Polar bears and other Arctic and Antarctic wildlife are unable to adapt to anticipated local climate change effects, independent of the causes of those changes;
Hurricanes, other tropical cyclones and associated extreme weather events are increasing in severity and frequency;
Data recorded by ground-based stations are a reliable indicator of surface temperature trends.

It is not the responsibility of ‘climate realist’ scientists to prove that dangerous human-caused climate change is not happening. Rather, it is those who propose that it is, and promote the allocation of massive investments to solve the supposed ‘problem’, who have the obligation to convincingly demonstrate that recent climate change is not of mostly natural origin and, if we do nothing, catastrophic change will ensue. To date, this they have utterly failed to do so.

Wait, we’ve handled this one already. Piles of people who mostly are not climatologists. Tim Ball never was, by the way. He just keep lying about his credentials, and about where he gets his money. Oh, it’s big oil. He was caught in 2006 lying about it, and he must be lying again.

Did these people all consent to be on the letter? We’ve seen denialists circulate fake petitions before.

And if it is genuine what then? So much for the consensus.

Prominent Atmospheric Physicist suggests ‘discontinuing UN IPCC’ – Declares Climategate scientists ‘substituted search for truth with an attempt at proving one point of view’

Hopefully this station will provide a bit of balance to the debate.

One things for sure, it’ll not make the same kind of crass errors as the moronic Albore has made recently.

1) Al Gore apparently has no command of the most basic details of anything related to Earth and climate. His last idiotic gaff in the media was that the temperature of the Earth 2 kilometers or so down was millions of degrees!

2) And neither can he tell the time-“I haven’t read all the e-mails, but the most recent one is more than 10 years old.”
