The Extinction Rebellion protest movement has grown in scale and impact in recent weeks, bringing energy...
Imagine this scenario: a group of Texas secessionists travel to Europe to spread the word of ‘Texit’.
This is what happened last week. The Texas Nationalist Movement visited England and France to “offer advice and perspective on the right of self-determination and peaceful independence”.
As the group’s website reads: “TNM greatly appreciates that our opinion is valued by our liberty-minded friends in Europe.”
Spurred on by the successful Brexit vote this past summer, the Texit movement — championed by climate science denier Christopher Monckton — now hopes to inspire and advise similar movements in France, Greece, and Spain.
This cross-Atlantic cooperation highlights the growing network between British and American euro-climate sceptics.
Climate change deniers are quickly becoming some of Britain’s most vocal Eurosceptics.
Prominent climate deniers including Matt Ridley, Owen Paterson, Lord Lawson, and James Delingpole join the roughly 50 per cent of the British public who are in favour of the UK leaving the European Union.
Last spring, Prime Minister David Cameron promised in his Conservative Party election manifesto to hold a referendum on the UK’s membership in the EU. It is expected that an in-out referendum will be held before the end of 2017.
But what does this group of anti-greens stand to gain from a ‘Brexit’? Does the UK leaving the EU simply fall in line with their general politics, or is there a more specific ‘brown’ agenda at play?
Scientists have spent years in Antarctica drilling ice cores to measure the levels of carbon dioxide in the air over millennia.
They have travelled to northern Siberia to count tree rings as a proxy measure of historic temperatures.
They have devised some of the most complex computer models in existence to see how rising emissions will impact different regions of the planet.
But John Stocker, the UKIP candidate standing against the well-known climate denier Peter Lilley, has used a sophisticated and novel method to prove that the scientists are all wrong.
